Are saline implants safe is a common question asked by women. In the early 1990's silicone, a product commonly used in breast augmentation prior to that time, condemned as being an unsafe product. Saline implants grew in popularity. The FDA required that all manufacturers of these implants show that their product was safe to use. In doing so, they could sell them. After various stipulations and trials, the manufacturers proved that their products were in fact safe. The FDA issued several warnings about their use though. For example, there are risks of infections from the surgical procedure and there is some evidence suggesting those who receive these implants are more likely to develop breast cancer. Still, these implants are considered safe by most standards.
